Welcome to VFX-A Portfolio Bootcamp. This guided course is designed to help you strengthen your artistic and technical abilities in the world of stylized VFX. Craft portfolio worthy FX aimed to help you get a job.

In this course you will learn...

Week 1 - Looping VFX

Join your classmates for a live orientation and begin your journey with looping FX. 

Week 2 - Burst FX

Learn the importance of timing and create burst FX like muzzle flashes, zaps, or splats.

Week 3 - Spell FX Sequence

Mentors guide you through creating VFX with clarity with a dive into creating spells.

Week 4 - Spell FX Sequence

Continue and complete your spell sequence and learn about the importance of color.

Week 5 - Portfolio Building

Dive into production workflows and VFX pipelines. Work on your online portfolio.

Week 6 - Art Test

Mentors begin paint-over feedback and put you to the test with a full art test. 

Week 7 - Art Test

Complete your art test and record a portfolio piece while mentors offer paint-over feedback.

Week 8 - Interview Prep

Share your portfolio. Mentors guide you through the hiring process and offer job interview prep.

Your Mentors

 

Sjors de Laat

Sjors has worked on video game VFX and cinematics for Fortnite, Godfall: Fire & Darkness, Tales of Runeterra, Sackboy, and Gears of War 5.

He is currently working at Tuatara Games where he contributes to projects like the My Hero Academia skins for Fortnite, and DLC for Godfall. He has also worked with Axis Studios on a series of cinematics and commercials for many popular titles.

Chris Sayers

Chris is a Senior VFX Artist whose credits include Overwatch 2, Fall Guys, Fortnite, and Temple Run: Puzzle Adventure. Currently, Chris is working at Anchor Point Studios.

His previous experience includes creating destructibles for Fall Guys at Mediatonic Games, where the team combined Houdini simulations with hand-drawn stylized 2DFX.
