for Mid-level VFX Artists

Unlock the tools and techniques used in production to create AAA-grade, stylized VFX. From art direction and animated concepts, to building blocks of VFX, to dynamic implementation best practices.

This course is the right fit for you if you:

  • are comfortable with working in Unreal Engine, but want to expand your knowledge

In the next 8 weeks, you take your time to learn the basics of EmberGen and LiquiGen, simulate ground shatter in Houdini, and integrate 6-point lighting and other effects in the most creative and optimized way!🔥

In this Stylized VFX in UE5 class, you will learn:

Week 1 - Kitbashing Stylized VFX

Dive into your new professional project Environment. Understand production structure, workflows, and how to use pre-built assets to accelerate your creative process efficiently.

Week 2 - Art Directing Stylized VFX

A strong eye for stylized VFX. Learn how to make intentional artistic choices, maintain visual balance, and ensure your effects enhance gameplay while staying visually cohesive.

Week 3 - 2D FX Animated Concepts

Learn advanced 2D tools to present your ideas in the early stages of VFX development. Practice communicating concepts effectively and securing team buy-in before production begins.

Week 4 - Flipbook Creation

Obtain the skills to create high-quality, volumetric-feeling flipbooks from scratch. Then implement them properly in-engine using professional production techniques.

Week 5 - Creating Stylized Textures

Mastery over the textures that define stylized effects. Create ground cracks, dissolve maps, and other essential elements that help you as an artist define the style of your VFX.

Week 6 - Materials for Stylized VFX

Discover optimised material setups and explore applied techniques specifically for stylized VFX production. Try practical shader techniques to optimize the performance.

Week 7 - Dynamic VFX Implementations

Get hands-on experience implementing interactive VFX systems. Set up blueprint interactions to meet your project's specific needs, and get industry-grade production tips.

Week 8 - Stylized VFX Playbook

Acquire a deep understanding of how you construct high-end stylized VFX. Break down professional-level effects, recreate their core building blocks, and learn how to craft polished, cohesive final results.

Jason Keyser

A world renowned FX artist and devoted VFX educator. Jason has worked in entertainment as both a 2D FX and 3D VFX artist for 13 years.

He has animated for the Powerpuff Girls, Netflix's Arlo, and multiple video game titles for Riot Games - including League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics.

Jerry Chan

Jerry worked in games since 2010 at a bunch of different studios across the United States, first working on indie games before making his way to Turbine (now WB Games Boston), Bioware Austin, Toys for Bob, and Riot Games.
Some of Jerry's game title credits include 2XKO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Infinite Crisis, Skylanders: Imaginators, Spyro: Reignited, the Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy, Crash Bandicoot 4, Crash Team Racing, and Call of Duty: WWII.
